My Dept stuck with DD60 as long as we could, now we're looking for a new motor to fall in love with. We were looking at the ISX11.9, but now I'm seeing on Spartan's site that the ISX15 is offered.
I recall one member here was a salesman, but don't remember his screen name.
What's the scoop on this? At one point we hear that it's too massive to squeeze in a custom chassis, now we're seeing it offered.

Spartan Gladiator with Cummins ISX15?

My gut says typo. I did not get to attend the dealer meeting in Vegas last month, so maybe something has happened, but everything I have from Spartan says ISX 11.9L.
Spartan is changing both cabs to be wider for the 2010 engines, so maybe something worked out, but I highly doubt it.
I'll look into this once I'm able to contact my Spartan rep. I'm kind of in limbo right now.

We have been told from numerous apparatus builders that the replacement for the Cummins ISM ( going away due to emisions standards ) will be the ISX.
Two of the builders we talked to used Spartan chassis, and they said the same.We do not rise to the occasion. We fall back to our level of training.

ISL and ISX
As of the latest release of Spartan data there are three engines available for 2010 in the Gladiator chassis, the 8.9L ISL at 450HP and the 15L ISX at 500 and 550 HP.
For the Metro Star you can get the ISC in 330, 350 and 380 HP and the ISL in 400 and 450 HP.
The Furion can be spec'ed with an ISC at 330, 350 and 380 HP. There will be more engines available later this year.
The Gladiator was a 96 inch wide cab but is now 99 inches.Last edited by tomwnh; 03-06-2010 at 09:40 PM.

Thanx for the input Gentlemen.
Also, I received confirmation today in my inbox from Spartan's Mid-Atlantic Sales Manager.

Personal opinion
From a personal stand point I like the 60 series Detroits as well. But I have also drivin the ISX15 in a log truck paired up with the right rearend(s) and transmition it has lots of power and tourqe. In my personal opinion a very good engine to "fall in love with". The one I drove was a 550hp and I could pull out and pass trucks hauling 80 or 90,000 LBS with a loaded set of b-trains scaling out at 110 to 120,000LBS
