The list was posted at city hall today. You should be getting your results in the mail shortly.

We would like to thank all of those who attended our classes. We have reviewed the list and 151 out of the top 175 scores were our students !!

Good luck to all of you!!

Just a few quick points... Alot of people seem to be complaining about not getting a few points for this or that, but the bottom line is the people who are suppose to get these jobs will get them. Remember, there still a interview process involved and a BG screening. No guarantee that everbody will make it through these. Also most of you who didn't get residency and got you 240's have no intention of staying with the CDF anyway, so why focus all this energy on a pit stop? More energy should be put on getting the job you really want.

and your here to say I'm going to use CFD as a stepping stone to what? It's people like you who shouldnt even bother testing. There are TONS of damn good guys who will get passed over and miss out on one or two points so for you to sit here and say were complaining about not getting a few points well a few points can mean the difference between being a full time firefighter and posting stuff on firehouse fourm looking for a full time gig.

Wow, pretty harsh. I was just saying that with your 240's, your opportunities are vastly increased, while someone who just gets over with Cleveland points is limited to just Cleveland. Even if you get a full time gig in Cleveland, your telling me that you'd stay here over a higher paying opportunity in the suburbs in the future? And even with that, we both took the exam and I know there was questions on the test that were helpful only for people who have their 240's, as someone who didn't would have a hard time truthfully answering "yes" to them. So you ( and the "tons of damn good guys") did have a point advantage in the Life experience survey. Being prior Military, I know what it feels like to be passed over for a job that you really want for someone you know your more qualified than. I get passed up all the time for people with "college experience" over my on-the-job, practical experience all the time ( that may include this instance as well.) It's tough, but you got of think of it this way; if you don't get this one, your Firefighter dreams and search still move on, while someone without 240s is pretty much dead.

    Default Info

There are people out there who have a lot invested in Cleveland's hiring process that come here to get information to possibly make some life decisions with that are not being served well by the emotions, innuendos, and side handed comments cropping up here and there on thisthread. Here is some basic information on the current status of the process by someone that has a presence at many tables - take it for what you will.

The final eligibility list has been made and released. If you took the exam you should have already, or in the next few days, receive your letter stating your placement.

The Headen Decree (Affirmative action court order) is no longer in place and will not effect this list. The group that supported it originally has basically lost interest because the city doesn't seem to care anymore about it. As with everything anything can happen in a political environment but as of right now its dead so don't waste any time thinking of or discussing it.

There were only 2-3 students from the Cleveland Schools MLK Firefighter Academy that took the exam and received the 5 additional points. According to school sources the majority of their students choose to attend college instead of waiting around for Cleveland to hire. The highest scoring student from the academy didn't get the 5 points due to some kind of administrative or paperwork issue that they didn't resolve but still scored in the top 20 without the points.

The DROP program candidates have started to retire from the department. Number estimates range from the 60's to the 120's over the next six months. It is true that the deaprtment is below the number of firefighters needed but it is also ABOVE the number of officer's needed due to the last layoff process and the city dropping the department's staffing levels by attrition. The union has the final numbers that they agreed with the city to drop the officer ranks to. So while you might think the city will be under pressure to hire realize that staffing with overtime is still more economical up to a point to do versus hiring new personnel due to benefit and insurance costs. Bottom line is the city is not under as much pressure to hire as firefighters would have you believe.

Cleveland is considering taking over the operations of East Cleveland Fire. Cleveland assuming control of their dispatching has already been approved and money is being spent right now on installing systems for that to take place this year. As far as the actual operations that was a suggestion of the Cleveland Safety Director and is being batted around city hall conference rooms. With the current push for regionalization its a good bet that this will occur. I don't see it having any impact on the hiring process as East Cleveland is currently staffed at pretty much minimum levels and their run totals aren't going to drop any time soon.

The Fire/EMS merger is being discussed now. Committees, sub-committees, and back door meetings are going on right now. People on both sides are presenting one version of what they believe is best publicly and another behind the doors of meetings. The city wants the merger and already has a plan in mind of how to do it but wants the process of the committees to bog down so that they have a reason to mandate certain changes. The Fire union wants te merger and is willing to cut corners on labor issues and their members to get it done. The EMS union doesn't have the strength or know how to meaningfully affect the process. EMS administration is the most desperate because they see a train coming that they believe they can't stop and that has no seats for them. The EMS/Fire merger is the one issue that will have the most impact on the hiring process for the department and its timing. If you are concerned you're only in is through your council person if you are a resident or your newly elcted county council person if not.

Outside of the above issues if you are currently on the eligibility list your number one issue should be to keep your nose clean, stay off the police blotters and keep testing. Cleveland isn't the only game in town and from a purely economical and career benefit standpoint the suburbs offer a better employment package.

    Good luck to all.

Well that might just clear everything up... almost. So if they have too many officers and they make them line firefighter then when will CFD do a class and what numbers will they look for? Also (not sure if you have any knowledge on this or not) but CEMS wants to get a class in by February how will that factor into CFD and a new class or will it?

thanks whoever in the "higher ups" you are.

just found this site today..pretty cool seeing all the anxiety on here that I also have been through...been a hell of a ride so far for me. I have lived in cleveland my whole life (west side) and I love this city. I have heard that I am in the top 100 but I will have to see it to believe it. took the McNea class and did the physical workouts the city provided. that was really great! Have to thank the CFD who put it on for us wanna-be's

Ok, so the list is out. Most, if not all, of us know our ranking on the eligibility list. Now the question is what is considered a good spot to be in? Top 100 or 50? Also, what happens next?

The list is posted in the Civil Service office at city hall. The list is also posted at most of the fire stations in the city.

background checks, and there are two law suits filed as of now. do not know how that will affect the hiring process.. one that i know of is abt the MLK and not everybody who has a 240 card getting the 5 points and one from the females , but i dont know what there case is.

I think whoever has a 240 card from wherever the academy may have been, EMT-B, EMT-I, or EMT-P certification should get the 5 points

No military points..but I do live in Cleveland so the 10 points helped...but still I got a 98 and thats awesome...I'm hoping that a couple of minor misdemanors when I was 20 don't stop them from continuing my process of becoming what I always wanted to be. both charges over 6 years old and no trouble but a couple speeding tickets since. I never thought getting these good results would put me under so much stress
