I assume it'll be like FDNY EMS or Detroit EMS where they say "fire" on there rigs and shirts and are stationed with them but aren't cross trained
as of now about 50 have 'dropped'
by 2014 the class of 1981 will all have to leave (roughly 300) people thru the drop program.
rumor a possible class by sept this year, another in the spring of 2012.
also heard from many sources 3 classes off this test. one of 70, and two of 50.
good shot from what i have heard (knowing roughly 20+ ppl on the dept) is top 200-250 over the next few years.
the city wants to call a lot of ppl off this list (because it cost the city a million bucks to give the test) so the next three years are going to be huge hire years for the city.
Seems like this thread fizzled out just as the eligibility rankings were released. You would think discussion on this thread would ramp up now that a formal hiring list is established. Perhaps there is no activity on this thread because the main contributors did not score as well as they had hoped and lost interest. Who knows...
Anyway, is there anyone out there who scored in the top 100 who has an inside track to CFD and/or city hall? What should candidates next expect in the hiring process? I know there is background and medical...but how is this conducted? Do background investigators interview candidates or will they simply run an FBI and local criminal screening? I've been through the process with a couple of other departments and they usually provide more information about what to expect during the hiring process. So far Cleveland has not shared much in this regard.
I did not score in the top 100 but I have some insight. I know there is a formula for the background packets they send out. I don't think the background check is too in depth. Criminal, driving and maybe an employment check. I was told the process should start in a month or two and that was a couple weeks ago so hopefully it will start to move along. I have a full time job but want to work for cfd.
not in the top 100, but im really close. and i havent heard anything about moving forward, backround medical and psych test. i guess for the psych test for when guys got on in 98 they had to do a 800ish question test, and sit down and talk to a shrink for 10-15 min.
if you havent killed anyone, or havent done anything too huge to impact your criminal record, and your near the top scorers, you shouldnt have anything to worry about.
where do you guys fall on the elegibility?
I am in the 160's. I scored a 107.16. Only a couple of points seperate the top couple hundred guys.
I scored in the top 25, and if I remember right the score was like a 108 or 109, for sure it was less than 110!
heard similar things, to expect the background soon, sounded like no 20+ page packet or anything though. I was told to expect very little notice before an academy class started, kind of a grab your stuff, we roll next week letter. so i'd advise all to save their nickels and dimes for a few months at the academy if 10.50/hr is a paycut for you.
yeah its crazy. One question makes the difference. Well good job with being in the top 25.
yea i scored 108 ranked 103,
i saw that top score was 110, but 109 ranked 2-20 ppl, and 108 went from 20 to like 120, it was crazy, the scores were determined by thousandths of a decimal separating people.
..........
cograts to top scorers!, im just over a hundred, but i also heard to keep your ears open later this summer, for an academy of roughly 70, then spring 2012 another academy of 50.
Top 40 rank here. I feel very fortunate to have this ranking considering that only a few thousandths of a point separated the first and second tier scores. There were only 48 "aptitude" questions on the exam compared to a few hundred psych & personality profile questions. I'm led to think that the psych questions were most responsible for differentiating the scores.
Also, I wonder if they are going to bother with giving a follow up written psych exam to the top candidates. They'll probably conduct the psych interviews, but it seems a bit redundant to spend money on another questionaire when a psych assessment was already baked into our written exam in July with nearly 400 personality profile questions.
A number of you have heard rumors that background packets are going out relatively soon. This is encouraging. Sounds like they won't be going too deep - just criminal history, driving record, employment stuff. That shouldn't take very long to process; most of the background info is accessible with just a few mouse clicks.
As for timing of academy, I've been told that a number of factors will determine when/if academy begins this years:
1) Budget: the current budget condition will influence whether Cleveland can afford to hire new firefighters. If facing another deficit, the city could possibly rely on OT to fill staffing vacancies created by DROP retirements. They might conclude that OT is less expensive than hiring new FFs with benefits
2) Weather/season: I've been told that Cleveland would prefer to put on an academy in Spring or Fall. It seems unlikely that they will be able to process the background checks and stuff in time for a spring class. So fall might be more plausible. Someone on this thread mentioned mid-late summer. I suppose that's possible since the first few weeks of academy is devoted to EMS training.
I've been stalking this page since the day of the written test. I have been told and heard so many different rumors on number of people being hired from 100-300...Does anyone have a clue as to how many they will be hiring. I sit in the 230's and am aware I have no realistic shot off the first couple classes. Just wondering input if there seems to be a chance for us guys sitting in the mid 200's within the next 2 years. I know the list still have to be certified and there are a few lawsuits currently going on so hopefully the longer the delay the better it is for us.
i totally agree that backgrounds shouldnt take too long to process, considering everything is online and easily accessable.
and i think another few factors with regards to getting an academy started, is this whole cluster bomb of rumors about CEMS, and E. Cleveland take over.
those are prob bigger concerns than weather, but i do understand the need to not do ladder and fire operations in the NE Ohio snow!!
and about the defecit, what if the city hires a class this year, and lays them off next year due to budgit issues,...pretty much same thing that happened with the guys off the '98 test.
anyone hear about budget issues with the city? or any new interesting news?
If the city hires a class this year I would be really surprised if they layoff the new firefighters next year...even if there are budget issues in 2012. Considering that close to 300 firefighters MUST retire between 2011 and 2014, the city will probably rely on the DROP attrition to reduce staff and keep the newly hired firefighters on board.
As for current budget issues in Cleveland, things look promising this year. Mayor Jackson just announced that he has balanced the budget for 2011 without any cuts in jobs, services. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2011...ackson_20.html
