City of Knoxville F.D.
Hello Volunteer State! Can anyone fill me in on the recruit process for the City of Knoxville or anything about the department. I have done some research online, but am looking for some answers to the following:
1)How many applicants does the department typically have? How many is a typical class size?
2)Is the process strung out or does it move quickly?
3)Anyone know how current staffing is?
Thank you guys and good luck to whomever will be going through this process

1. I have heard the number of applicants can range from 400-2000. The class size is around 25/year
2. The process is extremely long. A year or more from application deadline to starting date is not uncommon. Hang in there though, it is worth it.
3. 3 man trucks
Any other questions feel free to ask.

Thank you CNSR for the information shared. That sounds like a crazy range of applicants. Can you share any information on the written exam. This is my first exam in the State of Tennessee. I don't know if its a state exam (like Indiana) or if it differs from dept. to dept.

It does not cover firefighting material if that is what you mean. I would say it is a basic education test... simple math, reading comp., logic, following instructions. It's pretty easy, not anything to worry about.

If you're looking to work in the area, consider Rural Metro as well. I have no idea about their hiring process, but they handle Knox County, including the West Hills area and other parts of metropolitan Knoxville.

Anyone get anything in the mail yet regarding testing? I spoke with HR and they said we should be getting something here soon
