No DJ notice for us although I haven't received the first phone call, reduction, NOTHING since having written it back in the stone age...have they simply not sent them all out? I refuse to dig this grant up from my "grant cemetary." I had decided long ago it was dead...but can't help but wonder what the heck's up?

Every three months or so, I have this conversation with the City's ARRA administrator:
ARRAadmin: Have you heard anything on the Station grant?
me: No.
ARRAadmin: So, we're still in the running!
me: No.
ARRAadmin: Have we gotten a letter declining the grant?
me: No.
ARRAadmin: We have a chance, right?
me: No.
ARRAadmin: Seriously, you don't think we'll get it?
me: No.
ARRAadmin: I'll call you in a few weeks.

Add my name to the pot. Got my DJ today. Like all of you I didn’t understand the letter. With a whole page of writing it left out one sentence. “You did not get the grant” I hate it when somebody beats around the bush and don’t say what they mean. Just come out and say it.
I was told that the City of Mobile is going ahead and building there new station from the SCG funds but doesn’t have the firefighters to man it. So maybe they will get a safer grant and be fixed. I swear some of the cities are laying off their Firefighters just to get a heads up on the safer grant.
Oh well that is the way it goes, first your money and then your clothes.Last edited by dfd701; 04-12-2010 at 09:35 PM.

Dmleblanc; I remember you getting something a few weeks ago. Was it the 1199? If you didn’t get your DJ today than it looks like you are still in the running. They still have some money in that fund. Surly all the money is left is not for administrative fees. Good luck to you.

No, no 1199, but it was explained to me that since we already have a couple of previous successful AFG grants under our belt, they'd probably just use our 1199 from those grants. The information would be the same.
The communication we had with them a few weeks ago was that they wanted to know, if awarded, how many personnel would be operating out of the station. This was after our previous communication in October/November where they requested about a dozen or so documents including copy of the land deed, detailed budget, approved architectural drawings, and so forth, all of which we provided. So nothing definite but certainly looking more promising than most. No DJ yet, either

My dream — and I hope you don't find this too crazy — is that I would like the people of this community to feel that if, God forbid, there were a fire, calling the fire department would actually be a wise thing to do. You can't have people, if their houses are burning down, saying, 'Whatever you do, don't call the fire department!' That would be bad."

Check the 1199 form on the earlier successful grants. You might find the SCG reference number added to the old form.

Been a couple of weeks now since the DJ's went out on the station grants...any news on when "the rest of us" should be hearing something? This waiting and not knowing has been going on for a long time now....
