Fire destroys home, burns five acres

April 16, 2010 — A sawmill converted into a residence caught fire Wednesday afternoon, completely destroying the structure.

The Morehead Fire Department was dispatched to East Clack Mountain Road off Nichols Branch at 4:48 p.m. The fire destroyed a sawmill that had been converted into a home and burned six acres of nearby forest. A pickup truck with a camper shell sustained heat damage.

The structure was owned by Mitchell O. Bryan of Ohio. A woman and two children lived at the house but had left about 3 p.m., according to officials. The Kentucky State Police is investigating the cause of the fire.
