    Default Number of '20 Applications?

Has anyone heard if they believe there will be more of less applications this year?

Think it would be a little risky 'Not' to get an app in as this is still the last year on the books.

    [Should read '10 Applications]

    Talking

Jim: My personal take on the number is that there will be an increase in applications due to ever decreasing budgets for both career and volunteer departments.
I've already gotten several calls from folks looking for help with their apps. Lots of folks are finally realizing that the 2013 FCC deadline is coming soon for narrow banding. I foresee a lot of communications apps this year, even more than in the past.

I think it will be interesting to see the results after the submissions are finished. If AFG does get extended, am wondering what changes will be coming from outside the program. I mean, funding changes from the administration again? As a possibility.

Jim AFG in their applicaton opening letter stated they think they will have 20-22K this year. Logic says that as the economy spirals downwards and those economic losses continue to decrease tax base and affect the amounts of discretionary spending dollars that citizens have for donations and contributions to fund raising, more departments will be forced to seek relief through grants for equipment purchases since this is the first area that the "budget axe" swings at for most departments.

Here in Florida they passed a homestead amendment to exempt the first $50K of home value and that was immediately followed by the real estate bubble bursting. Departments here took it hard on the nose from a double broad side in less than two years.

That, hit the nail on the head!

My guess is soon governments will be giving out congratulations for those who tried to help, but were unable to secure funding.

Cash matches are going to get to be harder and harder. Much less awards.
