    Default Wsi

My fire dept. is facing a pay cut, possible layoffs, etc. I almost have a year under my belt(probie jokes insert here): 1.) Do you absolutely need the minimum experience or is it negotiable to get a contract, and more specifically with WSI? 2.) Do you really need ARFF to get into contract firefighting, and more specifically with WSI? Thanks ahead for your replies and for your services. I've been reading threads and researching for a few days now, unfortunately info isn't that abundant.

    Default no

you have to have 3 years thats the contract required with the DOD. and no you dont have to have ARFF.

    Requirements for WSI:

FF 1/2 DOD, ProBoard, or IFSAC MIN. 3 yr. Exp. ( no Explorer or Cadet time counted)
HAZMAT Awareness and Ops DOD, ProBoard, or IFSAC
Mininum Medical First Responder (EMT or Medic Preferred)

BTW, did some research directly through the Proboard contact #s and they "Do Not" even offer Hazmat Ops or Awareness certs. They are in the proccess of offering them in the future they said.

Thats funny I have those HAZMAT certs from ProBoard, got them in 2006. You might want to contact Amy at proboard 1-617-770-3000 this is the # for ProBoard ask for Amy in Fire Certifications. Don't know who told you that but they are wrong.

    Default Proboard Certs

The confusion can be regarding where you are trying to get the Proboard certification from. Not every state has the same certifications accredited by Proboard. Your state may not have a Proboard hazmat operations or awareness currently.

If not you can try TEEX or one of several other colleges/fire academies from other sates that offer Proboard or IFSAC certifications.
