Watch out it might crush you like it has for so many others! I'm surprised Aurora has gone in this direction. Keep in mind there will still be an oral board for the candidates moving on in the hiring process. Because they want to test drive you before they hire and put you on the floor.

    Video Testing

Many agencies are being convinced to use the new type of video testing because they can test large groups at once at a lower cost and eliminate candidates with psychological video scenarios.

Candidates who have have trouble with the FireTeam Testing video found that on the difficult questions if they went to their feminine side they answered better. Isn't that precious?

A candidate had a chance to talk to an employee at Ergonomics who put together the FireTeam Testing Video. He said, “We’re not to out think you. Forget everything you know. Clear your mind and go with your gut feeling for your answer.

This from a candidate who paid to test drive the video testing:

I went to the website www.fireteamtest.com and paid a fee to take the practice test. The test takes 30 to 45 minutes so unplug your phone and listen to the instructions VERY carefully, my phone rang while I was watching the video and missed an important part. DON'T answer the situational questions the way you think the "test writers" want you to, answer thinking about the big picture and what is right for everyone, being a kiss-up will not get you a 100% on this test. I know; I got kinda toady on one question and got slammed. So much for my 100%

It seemed like for each question the four answers fell into these categories:
    Correct
    Semi-Correct
    Neutral
    Wrong

Of course if you sit there and try to figure out which ones fall into each category you will fall behind and start screwing up.

I've heard from several candidates who have already been invited to the Aurora FireTeam Testing.

Yeah I've been invited as well to test. I was curious if anyone has set up the test dates and times yet.

No I have not recieved a date and time for a test yet. That's why I want to use this time to get prepared. Since I have never taken the video test, I wanted to see if there are any preperation guides available.

I have been selected to start testing for the Aurora FD as well but haven't heard anything about dates yet, I even emailed the Civil Service Commission rep about tentative dates, still nothing. But from what I have gathered from the PIO and other FF's in Dept is that the written test is general knowledge not catered to those with fire experience, but the Ergometrics test is anyones guess.

Anybody out there get the Ergometrics test AND SURVIVE?

I just took that same test for rock community fire and rescue in Arnold, MO just south of st louis. The test was interesting but I think I did very well on it and made it pretty far in the process so far. The test was really different from any test I have ever taken some of the question on there dont really have right answer it gives them a insight into your personality. Oh by the way there was 15 of us that survivved the test!!!

How many did the 15 start out as though? 15 out of 450 or 15 out of 30 or so?

Well I spoke with the good folks at the Aurora Civil Service Commission yesterday and found that dates for the written test will be decided in a meeting on May 25th. Emails will follow shortly thereafter, or so I'm told.

Thanks for the info, maybe we should make an AURORA FD thread soon?

I've taken it about 3 times for diff agencies in the same area (not for Aurora)and moved on every time. I think CaptBob's advice is right on.

The only thing I would add is that I heard (not for certain) it can be customized for every dept's ideal applicant, so you might take it with one dept and score great and then take it with another dept and answer every question the same and score differently.

Also the dept has the option to add or take away sections of the test. For one dept I took it with they had the video scenarios and the brick factory, but for another dept they added a mathematical section to the videos and brick factory. Not hard, just different.

Best of luck to all! Hope this info helps.

Thanks Irishman for the info on when we might see some testing date options.

True. Agencies usually select sections for any outside testing agencies.

    Default Time for Test

Hey all, I am taking the test at 12 or 1230 and was wondering how much time I should allow myself as I will be leaving work.

    Thanks

Sorry for digging up this as a question, never read this thread before I guess.

Capt Bob, please expand on this whole "feminine side" question answering. I have taken some tests that weeded out anything that seemed like racial profiling. Showed an African American wearing traditional fez/kofia and asked: What is his job? Librarian, Dog Handler, Community Activist or Shoemaker... the only wrong answer was Community Activist, because that would have been racial profiling.

    Is this about the same?

I won't speak for Capt Bob but I interpreted his reply as answering the questions with your softer side in mind. Talking through problems with others and such...

    Default Test

I am taking this test for the City of Palm Bay, FL on 06/28/2010. The only thing I could find after searching for hours was their practice test..

Any other suggestions would be great, thanks I'd appreciate it.
