Default Shout out to Tampa Super Summit crowd!

    Need some advice.
I have a local fire department with a population of 651 people in a rural district. Still owe $80,000 on a 2001 KME/ International 2000 gallon tanker.

Presently they have two trucks they want to take out of service, and replace with one engine:

1982 Ford F-800, 8300 miles, 28,000GVW, 5 Speed w/2 sp rear, 2 man cab, No Pump, 2500 gallon metal tank, 20,850 lbs. of water, Home made cabinets, 8” inch square newton discharge
    High center of gravity.

And a 1988 GMC Top kick, 10,000 miles, 5 speed w/ 2 sp. rear, 2 man cab , $14,000 in pump repairs in ‘06 1000, metal gal tank with 1000 gpm pump.

They want to get one engine to replace both trucks. I am recommending a late model used custom cab, since they want more man power on the truck and they want a new one. What are their chances of getting a new one as opposed to a used one? I feel the the used vehicle will provide a greater cost benefit. ($150,000 v. $250,000). Thoughts anyone.

    Default advise

I would do the cost benefit for each and see which one is better. I would also check govedeals.com and type a search for fire. There are some darn nice truck there with low miles if a deparment needed to upgrade. It sounds like they don't put many miles on and may not have a high call volume.

    Default thought while sleeping

can you take those repair cost and do like a reverse cost benefit over the same period for both vehicles. With only 600 or population a normal cost benifit will be high but the reverse might help put it in perspective. Now I can go to bed.
