We are considering an AFG 2010 request for SCBA's, RIT, and fit testing equipment. Have not had any success in finding seated positions under 1901. Our fleet is 1 tanker (holds 3 FF's), 2 engines (holds 11 FF's), 1 brush truck/command vehicle (holds 2 FF's), 1 ambulance, and 1 rescue (is also backup ambulance). On mutual aid calls, besides hauling water, the tanker hauls 2 firefighters to provide manpower. Same for our rescue, it hauls firefighters for manpower mutual aid requests. We currently have 10 Scott 2.2 SCBA's which meet the 1997 version of NFPA 1981. Currently do not meet NFPA 1710 requirement of 12. Department size is 34 and turnout at a structure fire is 75% or better. How many SCBA's do you think we could ask for? I think we could justify asking for all new ones (interoperability/training/etc) and trade the current 10 to replace project cost, but I wanted to get the experts opinion. Thank you in advance for your comments.

You have 14 seated positions, brush trucks and ambulances don't count . How does the tanker count as three? Is it a bench seat with three seat belted positions?
1997 versions have not been normally replaced under AFG, but depending on call volumes and demographics might be borderline on scoring high enough. As far as trading them in , don't get your hopes up on getting any real money for them. . There have been way too many scba's replaced in recent years so that the used market is poor. most dealers have storage rooms full of old 2.2 packs with no market for them.
The packs you have do meet the NFPA specs for the year they were manufactured , so that argument won't score many points. Parts and service is still available for them.
I would go with the 14 packs for an app and if they agree with your narrative reasoning. and don't reduce it you will be lucky.

The tanker is a bench seat with 3 positions. Would the 2 spots count in the brush truck as it serves not only as a brush truck but personnel carrier for structure fires. In addition, it as well as our rescue truck goes to mutual aid calls for manpower.

What defines brush truck vs. quick attack or something similar? I may have not appropriately labeled it. It has a Darely skid with 300 gallon tank, couple hundred gpm pump, preconnected 1.5" lines, foam, booster reels, etc. It rolls first on brush fires, but also dumpster fires, car fires and other similar incidents with Class A engines to follow.
