..Share Two people were killed early Tuesday morning in an accident near Lindon.
The accident occurred just before 3:30 a.m. on northbound Interstate 15, according to a Utah Highway Patrol news release. A 2010 Jeep reportedly struck the back of a large vehicle, possibly a semitrailer. The collision, in turn, disabled the Jeep in the travel lanes, where the Jeep remained straddling the two right lanes.
Police say the driver of the Jeep got out of the vehicle to check on passengers when a small bread delivery truck struck the left side of the Jeep.
Maria Esther, 67, of St. George, and Aquistin Isas Rios, 76, of Ogden died at the scene. The driver of the vehicle was outside the vehicle and was uninjured, while two boys, ages 3 and 4, were inside the vehicle and were also uninjured, according to the release. The driver of the bread truck was not injured. Police believe the older woman was not wearing a seat belt at the time and was thrown from the Jeep.
Utah Highway Patrol trooper Cameron Roden said the group was traveling from St. George to Ogden at the time of the crash. He said it is still unclear what caused the Jeep to hit the semitrailer.
Officials closed lanes for about three hours after the accident.
