Our department currently runs BLS Non-Transport EMS Calls. We are rapidly moving toward ALS service and with AFG Grant support are sending 5 mor firefighters to Paramedic school. We are served by 2 private ambulance companies who are not always available 24/7. We have identified a risk to our community of not having an ambulance readily available. My question is: If we decide to move into the transport business to take up that slack and lower our community risk, what do you gran gurus think of the chances of a fire department getting a vehicle grant for an ambulance? Unless I am missing something the grant guidance only talks about non profit EMS agencies getting priority fro ambulances. Any advice would be appreciated.

If you read the program guidance and priorities: It says that an ambulance is priority III classification. They want us to go towards providing ALS, BUT the ambulance is not a high priority item in the matrix.

Well, one way to guarantee that you will not get funded. That is not to apply at all.
What have you got to lose?
