    Default SAFER starting again

Hit 4 for 5 on 2009s for one department, FP was an excess fund DJ so almost had the handful.

Might have to take a brain break and check into things...

Both I found were rehiring. Probably a slow going on all fronts with SAFER. Didn't check R&R yet, haven't heard Word 1 about anything on that side at all.

Seems as though ALL the Safer $$ is going to rehires this year. My big question is how are they going to pay for these positions when the federal dollars run out. Is this just a big temporary finger in the dike of layoffs, or is it really going to make a difference long term?

Haven't seen any R&R awards, just huge $$ hring grants.

Our first 3 out the door were all new positions, but the bigger ones were avoidance projects. Probably changed around the order because of the end of the fiscal coming and positions cut loose/layoffs would occur then. Rehiring is quicker to implement so makes sense to get a bunch of those out. Most everyone else has hiring lists for the new positions so won't take long to get those going if they're awarded later in the game.

When do you anticipate 2010 SAFER to open? Late Fall?

I'd guess August-September by the time they get everything hashed out for 2009. Just a guess though, I know there's a push to get the app period ranges back to normal but not sure it will actually happen.
