General Information: The beginning
salary is based on a combination of education,
certifications and related work experience.
Names of candidates passing all evaluation
phases are placed on an eligible register.
Recency of experience may be a determining

Evaluation Will Consist Of:
* Certification (Copies of certifications required at time of application)
* Written Test
* Driverís License
* Physical Agility Test
* Background Investigation/Fingerprints
* Drug Screening
Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or GED. Must be a
minimum of 18 years of age. Must have Georgia or National Paramedic
Certification at time of employment. Must obtain NPQ1 Firefighter
Certification by completion of DeKalb County Fire and Rescueís training
academy. Incumbents possessing National Paramedic Certification must
also obtain Georgia Paramedic Certification by completion of the training
academy. Must possess and maintain a valid State driverís license. The
working test period for this classification is 12 months.
Essential Functions: The following duties are normal for this position.
These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may
be required and assigned.
Performs advanced emergency medical care and upon completion of the
academy, performs basic fire-fighting duties; attends training sessions to
learn proper methods, procedures, and techniques used in risk reduction,
fire suppression, public education, and enhance knowledge of emergency
medical care; responds to medical/trauma emergencies, motor vehicle
accidents, industrial accidents, disasters, multi-casualty incidents, fire
incidents, etc.; conducts thorough patient assessments, exams and triage;
completes patient care documentation; ensures scene safety for the crew as
well as the patient; interacts with public and other public safety workers;
participates in fire drills, public education programs, and risk reduction
inspections; conducts vehicle inspections and maintains vehicle.
Work Schedule: Employees may be required to regularly work on
various shifts, weekends and/or holidays as deemed necessary by the
