Come on guys, anything worth talking about ! Red is my favorite color apparatus. I had to work on those days so I missed out on seeing all the red trucks. Did any of the bankrupt apparatus builders show up?

Everything I state on here is to support and aid my fellow firefighters. Everything I post is my opinion only, and in no way should be taken as an official opinion of any Company, Department, or Municipality I represent... oh and this includes Pierce Mfg, as so their legal department has advised me; since they apparently also invented the right to control "Free Speech".

As a mechanic, the only shows I get to see are the ones presented by the manufacturers, that I go to for training seminars. Them and some of the suppliers.

What would be the top 3 expos to go to, to see what all is out there??? I've heard of FDIC in Indianapolis, so what would be the next 2 to go to, and why???

I'm the one Fire and Rescue calls, when they need to be Rescued.

Pa. Fire Expo, which began as a local thing in Lancaster Co., Pa. some years ago has become one of the major stops on the show circuit. But it's strictly show, no meetings, training, etc. It's much more of a regional affair now.

New York Chiefs used to be one of the biggest in the country. But due to huge costs, difficult access and other factors, it has faded somewhat. Shame, because it was a great show. I know they've made efforts to improve, moving the location for one thing. It will be interesting to hear how this year's show goes (coming up soon).

I took in Firehouse Expo briefly for the first time last year and will probably be there again this year. Not bad.

FDIC and International Chiefs are probably the biggest this side of Intershutz. Some manufacturers use them to introduce new stuff.

I got to go to Intershutz in 2000. Great experience!

Although they're not "Bankrupt,", ALF was very much there.

    firemech1,

IMO, the best show is FDIC. It's a great show to go and look at what everyone is offering. Very helpful when evaluating manufacturer's products or compiling specs.

Best conference for mechanics, Spartan training conference, hands down. If you haven't been, I highly recommend it.

Judging by those photos, I'd say you guys in PA like BLING on your rigs.

Thanks for the info guys. Need to make plans for next year. Would really like to see what is REALLY out there.

Done the Spartan training thing in '07 and '09. Hopefully I'll be there again in '11.

When that got back in house, I spent a lot of time cleaning up your "drool" and I don't think it was all droll....good thing I wore gloves just kiddin... Glad you liked it

I will admit we have some "Bling" but, you have to understand my chiefs thinking.... A lot of the "bling" we use he wants a good reason for it...for exsample....the powercall....It too kus YEARS to get them and the only reason we did was the elctric siren in our old engine went and he told us to get a new electric siren and we did... I can honestly say, from my expierance, the power call is a differnt sound, so it appears that it kinda "stands out" a little more and catches civilian ears, becasue it's not your traditional sounding electronic sireen....so as sirens went or rigs got replaced, we stuck with it....as for the Hanson LED back lit hand rails....we put them on our engine first....it was a neat look but it makes the rig stand out a little more at night and with the amount of traffic in Monroeville, we wanted to stick out at night...(had a few guys get grazed and one almost killed over the years due to passing motorists) So we put them on our engine....and enough people made mention of how it sticks out so we decided to stick with it and put them on the tiller. I'm sure you can argue the points more one way or the other... but thats what we found out with our "Bling" on the rigs.
It takes a little intelligence to enjoy humor, satire & wit, but none to be offended by it.

It take more than a new Leather Helmet to make you a good officer

The following is a Literary Masterpiece that started appearing on CentralPaFire.com's forums about 10 years ago. No one knows who the author is, and no one has ever claimed responsibility. I first received it in an email a few years ago from Dave Houseal. To truly appreciate this, you need to have attended the Pennsylvania Fire Expo at least one time. Enjoy.

Here are some observations from the recent Harrisburg Fire Expo show:

To quote it's unknown author "If nothing else, I have to witness again and again the immutable fact that the fire service will take anybody. "

Dewly Whacker, wearing the stained tee shirt stretched tight over his gut,
carrying the $1500 light bar that he will install on his $200 truck, while
his tired-looking and very ugly wife pushes the carriage containing the
mean little results of his sperm colliding with her ovum in a long ago moment
of Mad Dog 20/20 inspired passion.

Next comes Norbert Fuzz, Grand Emperor of the Fire Police Squadron in
Lanced Boil Springs. Despite the fact that he is 700 miles from home, he
carries two 500 channel pocket scanners, his monitor, a cell phone, baton,
handcuffs, flare gun, CS teargas, and probably has a Walther PPK
secreted on his person. His vehicle of choice would be an LTD Crown Victoria with an Edge bar, grille strobes, an arrowstick, Federal Q siren and wigwag
headlights. This man masturbates while reading a Gall's catalog.

Following them is Sylvia Cruntley, Ladies Auxiliary President of Buttcrack
Heights VFD. Her lavender stretch pants have reached critical mass, and
when her pager beeps, little children have been known to cry, "Look
out-I think she's backing up!" Her t-shirt is emblazoned with "got milk?" yet
the mere thought of those leviathan mammaries is enough to wilt the most
stalwart of Woodrows. As she shuffles past, munching on her 3rd funnel
cake of the morning, the sight of her flesh in motion reminds one of two hogs
in a burlap sack, wrestling over a Snickers bar.

Entertainment such as this knows no equal.
