Well, it finally happened to us...someone hit our rescue truck at an accident scene. We were working a minor accident when when this Nissan came around a curve at too high a rate of speed and hit our truck head-on. Fortunately, no one was injured. I was glad that even on this quiet two-lane road we had taken the precaution of parking our apparatus on either end of the accident scene, which created a safe work zone. Goes to show the value of good blocking practices at accident scenes.
The rescue truck only suffered minor damage to the bumper. The Nissan appears to be totalled.
Even before this accident occurred, we were already planning to get some more in-depth training on highway safety procedures, and had an order placed for traffic safety vests for everyone. So if you could say that there was a good time for this accident to happen, this was it, because it really illustrates the need for proper practices at MVA's.

My dream — and I hope you don't find this too crazy — is that I would like the people of this community to feel that if, God forbid, there were a fire, calling the fire department would actually be a wise thing to do. You can't have people, if their houses are burning down, saying, 'Whatever you do, don't call the fire department!' That would be bad."

Good to see you're all ok.
Our SOP's say to park the truck at an angle across the road, which will direct any car that hits it off the side of the road.
