    Smile 2010 AFG Peer Review

    Next week (June 21st) starts the next step in the process with Peer Review being conducted. The goal is to complete Peer Review in one week. We will see.

    The only way to know for sure if you made it to PR is through the DJ's. Computer DJ's, historically (last year being the exception), show up after 4-6 rounds of awards. We're months away from that.

    There are some tell tale signs that your application made it to PR. About 4-6 weeks after the PR departments will start to find reductions in the budget or 1199A's start showing up. These are potential signs of an award meaning it made it to PR.

    Does that mean it would be worthwhile to include an item at a level you know will be reduced, just to serve as a marker?

    Wondering when I should begin collecting dates for the 2010 1199 pool.

    (RAMFIRE, I am almost inclined to agree with you. Till we see an indicator of the process returning to normal. That is after the opening and closing period that is.)

    Probably not a good idea. You want to be as competitive in cost benefit ratio as possible.
    That could just be the difference between getting by the computer or not.

    Things started yesterday, 220 reviewers and 8000 apps. Looks like the goal of 1 week will be reached. With the cut in money less apps and less time to do review, normal PR is 12000 apps.

    BC or others....

    Does anyone know what the average amount of a request is for 2010? Just looking to put together some odds. Although I do know it really isn't based that way but numbers ease my mind a bit.

    Won't know until the AFG posts the application statistics for 2010. For 2009 it was just over $160K. I would suspect that for 2010 you will see a decline in that average as applicants reduced their requersts to remain competitive with tha 25% cut in funding.

    Lowest Vehicle Request: $235
    Highest Vehicle Request: $2,370,000

    NON-AFFILIATED EMS:

    Lowest Ops Request: $3,083
    Highest Ops Request: $3,899,805

    Lowest Vehicle Request: $20,000
    Highest Vehicle Request: $594,000

    REGIONAL:

    Lowest Request: $7,500
    Highest Request: $3,210.282

    Obviously a multi-vehicle request to hit that high on Fire-Vehicle request. Almost did one of those this year, but figured better to snag one than miss on two. Dept in bad shape on trucks for having over a dozen stations. Bird in the hand...

    Wonder what kind of ems vehicle request that was for over 500k? has to be multiple trucks. No way AFG is gonna fund a Critical care type truck.

    Probably chasing a Heavy Rescue since many EMS providers do that side also. P3 vehicle on that side for all so no chance at it really funding with only $2.5mil available for EMS vehicles, but better than not applying.

    I didn't think multiple vehicle requests were allowed? Or can you request two vehicles as long as they're identical (i.e. twin pumpers)?

    Multiple vehicles requests are allowed. From the PG:

    In FY 2010, applicants that serve urban or suburban communities may apply for more than one vehicle. However, awards will be limited to only one vehicle per station.
    A rural department cannot submit for multiple vehicles under the PG; if they do the application is tossed out.

    Gotcha. I'm rural, so that's probably why I forgot about/missed that part. I wonder what that statistics are regarding multiple vehicle awards? How many have been handed out? I think I agree with one of the previous posts... I'd feel more comfortable trying for one, rather than getting denied for asking for two. Tough call though.

    Not many multiple vehicle awards. For 2009 Chicago would be the only one (that I can see) with an award of just over $2 million for vehicles. The $$$$ amount implies multiple vehicles.
