Anyone know about the testing process for Louisville Arson Investigator Trainee?

I was a volunteer and paid industrial firefighter/emt-b for a number of years. I have earned a B.S. in Fire Arson and Explosives Investigation and have CFEI, CFII, and CVFI certifications. I have been out of the field for a few years, but have been accepted into the testing process for an Arson Investigator Trainee position with the city of Louisville. I am looking for any info anyone may have on this testing process. Specifically I am wondering if it involves the standard physical agility test and if the written test is a general civil service test or if it is more geared to 921. Also, any tips or advice anyone may have on how to stand apart from the crowd (considering they are only filling one position) would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure what you mean by accepted because according to HR no one has heard anything yet unless the candidate did not meet qualifications or clarification was needed. I was informed you should be hearing something real soon. I don't know what to expect as far as the written test goes, but was told a study guide would be provided in the mail with around three weeks to prepare. I don't know what you mean by standard physical agility test because LFD's physical agility is anything but standard when compared to the rest of the country. I would hunt down the LFD firefighter thread on here to see what it entails. I recently took it as part of their FF process and it was intense. I watched more fail it than pass it. Good luck to you!

HR did contact me for verification of my degree because I had transferred schools a couple of times. They told me I did qualify and to expect my testing package in a couple of weeks. I did look up the physical test info for LFD (and it does sound very intense), but am not sure if that is part of the process for this position. I already started training for it just in case. Thanks for the support! Are you already in the Dept or are you testing for this position too?

I believe they are required to pass the POPS agility test as they have to be sworn law enforcement.

It may not be part of the pre-employment testing but per the information on the bulletin:
'Successful completion of the Firefighter Recruit Training program administered by the Louisville Division of Fire.' I know for the FF recruits, passing the physical in approximately 11 minutes is required for graduation of the academy. I am expecting to be treated the same way if I were hired. I do not know what the police portion of the academy or physical involves. I still haven't received anything as of yet. I did apply as well as another member of my department. I don't know anything about the number of applicants.

I e-mailed HR and they told me that they will be using the police physical for this position. It is comprised of push-ups, sit-ups, bench press, 300M run, and 1.5Mi run. There is a link on the metro website pd page. I'll post the link when I get a chance. Written test is in 3 weeks and covers NFPA 921.

I too will be taking the test, but as far as i have heard there is no physical test. I believe that it is only a written test for the first part. But i am not 100 percent positive, so i would be ready to do a physical test if i were you.

There should be a written test, a physical agility test which is the police POPS test, at least 2 interviews, background check, polygraph, and medical screening. It should take about a year to do. The physical agility test isn't like the firefighter test it consist of a what I heard from some metro police officers a 1.5 mile run, 300m run, push-ups, sit-ups, and bench press.
