Just wondering if anyone can tell me about the area, the base FD, etc. Looking to possibly move to that area soon. The Base FD website has some good info on the FD, but I would like to hear information from anyone who's been there in regards to housing (off base), the countryside, etc.
Thanks in advance.

Might want to check the Marine Corps forums at military.com.

I was just there for AT-again. My takeaways are:
-Traffic is hellacious-nonstop construction on the I-95 every time I've been there. There is no escape. We were stuck in traffic last week for 2 hours at 2100-2300 on a wed night.
-Housing is expensive, but prices are dropping, probably not enough for a fireman's salary though.
-Hot and muggy in the summer. Always seems to be 100+ when I'm there.
-If you are a Civil War buff, much of it was fought within driving distance.
-It is land of the vollies-if you're okay with that, no problem. If you are a hard line IAFF guy, it might be a problem for you.
-Might be a little too "Oorah" motivation for an old Army guy

Thanks Gunny...I was hoping you'd see this post.
Dont care about the volly side of things, I will be working on base (hopefully). Just looking for a decent place to live, with minimal crime and about 5 acres for a stupid horse.
And after being in the "real" world for the last few years, I could use a little "Ooorah"

Strange, i haven't seen any posting for an opening at the FD on Quantico. Do you know something the rest of us don't?

Plus I'll add it cold and snowy in the winter. Folks traveling throught have no clue where they are going, either North or South on I-95. They get off over to US Route 1 and they have screwed the pooch.
You may look around Fredericksburg, VA, the Richmond or Winchester area to live.Stay Safe and Well Out There....
