    Default 2010 SAFER R&R 1199As

    To date I have not seen any postings on this forum about departments receiving 1199A's for 2010 SAFER R&R applications.

    I am guessing that Brian and Kurt probably helped prepare the largest number of 2010 SAFER R&R apps. Therefore, I ask them to comment on whether any of those apps have received 1199A's or 10Q's.

    I also welcome input from any other departments that have pending 2010 SAFER R&R apps.

    There has already been a 2009 SAFER R&R award. A very substantial one.

    Thanks. I am aware of the Suffolk County award. I would like to know whether there have been additional 1199As posted and it would be helpful to hear from Kurt and or Brian because I assume they worked on a substantial number of apps.

    I truly expect the vast bulk to be hiring awards. The situation of the country is going to demand some jobs creation to be SHOWN.

    I don't disagree, however, the program requires at least 10% of funding be allocated to R&R. Plus, the final amount allocated to R&R will depend on how many hiring awards are not accepted.

    At this point I am trying to get a sense of whether the pending R&R apps we have are still in the running or whether the majority of 1199a's have already been posted

    Dave: The fat lady hasn't even warmed up yet for R+R apps. They will start flowing soon.
    Remember there is a minimum allocated r R+R plus they will have excess funds fro refused hiring apps. to give away also.

    When addressing issues regarding our 2009 AFG, I was told that R&R awards will be coming in the next couple weeks. I haven't heard of anyone receiving there 1199A though

    We have been awarded an AFG Grant in the past (2). We have not had a SAFER award awarded to our FD. When looking for the 1199 for a possible SAFER award, will it show up on our previous AFG award drop down or will the SAFER application have the new 1199 on it?

    It will appear on the original AFG award 1199a page.

    Would hiring awards turned down by the awardees go back into SAFER and be avail for applicants that maybe didnt make the cut initially instead of going to R&R?

    They already need surgery - have I mentioned what a blessing these grants are even with all the hoops we end up jumping through? And thanks to all who continue to mentor the rest of us.

    ffp20 to answer your question, technically yes as hiring awards are turned down they go to the next in line hiring applications but only because hiring generally outscores R&R as a rule since those applications more likely to create 24/7 compliance with NFPA 1710/20 are scored higher. Hiring pretty much guarantees that no matter how many volunteers a department has, so the bulk of the top scores are hiring apps. When the time gets short when they'd have to award or turn the money back to the Treasury like they did with 2008 SAFER they turn to R&R because it's free money with no strings so much easier and shorter time period on acceptance of the award versus a hiring apps.
