    Default New Communications Tool - Twitter Rescue

    This is a bit off the grant topic, but it's interesting nonetheless.

    Check out this story about a woman who had a serious bike accident alone in the woods. She couldn't make any phone calls, but was able to connect to Twitter to send a message that she needed to be rescued.

    Makes me want a Code Red or similar system. text seems to be able to get through and everyone is carrying cell phone communication. I should say cell phones are proceeding to where they will do everything soon.

    If you said Twitter a few years ago, everyone would have said, "What?"

    Actually Jim: I haven't had a cell phone since they shut off analog, & my old bag phone wouldn't work anymore. Down here in the Islands, digital coverage is spotty at best and even with the new tower there are still many dead or no signal zones. We know that at certain points along the road we can get a strong enough signal to call into the hospital, and have to stop in the middle of the road to carry on a conversation with the Doc's.
    Maybe someday we will move into the 80's technology. :-}

    Text usually comes through, albeit often with a long delay....

    Great if you don't mind getting help in a day or two.
