It's nice if you have a family, not enough to do for a guy who is single.

Coreology, I'm assuming you are from TN or the Nashville area? Are you on a local department?

Yep, Memphis tn native, I'm with memphis fire for now, but due to undisclosed family issues I have to move up there. If Nashville doesn't work out I will finish out paramedic school. Going to start next week

Well you sound well qualified. I'm coming from out of state. I haven't heard anything yet from GFD or Personnel.

Well there Is a such thing as being overly qualified. I learned that lesson quickly after being turned down by Nashville because majority of the people they selected were new to firefighting. Don't believe, ask the other guys in here. There are some guys in this forum who have more Certs than I may possibly have, high scores on the written test and still got passed over.

Well what I'm trying to get at is just because I'm experienced doesn't mean I have a lock on any fire department job. Even though gallatin is a smaller department I still have the same hope of getting hired as the same way I felt with Nashville. Who knows you may have something gallatin needs on the job rather than me. Hopefully both of us and anyone on this forum who applied will get something by this weeks end.

Try calling 615-451-5890 ask for April summers, then give her your name and she will tell you if you was invited for the written exam.

Apparently I was overqualified. This is as dissapointing as I've ever been being turned down from a job. I just don't understand how having all of the required certs, currently being a FF/EMT and Inspector/Investigator, and a Bachelors Degree in Fire Protection can't buy me atleast an invite. Extremely frustrating and heartbreaking.

Yes, she said I was not selected to move on. I know of one who has no certifications nor experience who moved on. Very tough for me to swallow.

To be honest with you. You have certifications and experience
That is equal to a captain or lieutenant. Try looking
Into jobs in the civilian sector that is looking for guys with your experience. Because I think gallatin see's you as a threat and don't have the money to pay you because your pretty much a supervisor in my eyes.

Thanks for the encouragement Coreology. I applied for the fire inspector job with Metro Government. I am really excited about the position and would be happy doing it, but am aware that things may not work out. I hope there is not as much politics that go into an inspectors position as the operations side. Keep me updated on the Gallatin process and best of luck to you. I will be putting in an application with Cleveland TN.
