I think I might have ran into the same problem. I was an out of state applicant and maybe that worked against me as well. I still don't understand how one can be over qualified. I mean of the reasons I became a paid part-time FF/EMT is so I can gain experience. Every firefighter has always told me that would make you look more attractive as a candidate. I would think any department would want guys who are battle tested. Nashville has already lost 5 guys or so. How many will not make it through academy or fail their first year? Its still really tough for me to swallow and I'm sure it is for you too. Keep your head up, I know, its hard.

Quick update on Nashville...After this week, all physicals should be completed, and the metro council is expected to pass a resolution tonight accepting the grant money. I guess we'll meet the same fate as the last group if for some reason they don't pass it. Hopefully, we hear something in the next couple of weeks about whether or not we are hired. I know they sent conditional offers to more people than they plan on hiring. So, I don't know what happens if not enough people fail pre-employment testing. Good luck to everybody applying to the other local departments.

I will be praying that they do accept the grant and hire you, and other potential candidates.

The council approved the use of the grant money last night. Doesn't speed up the process but at least its moving forward. Hopefully, in four months or so they'll start this up again for another class. I think they plan on around 50 making it to the academy this go around. I know there are still a ton of people on the list, but now at least the list is 72 people shorter.

I saw that too, but in the supplemental questions it asks if you've applied for reciprocity if you do not have TN EMT cert.

Ya I talk to hr. They said it would be reviewed. Basically you need nremt and 100 bucks for reciprocity! Would have been nice to have more time

Visited the HR down here in Nashville and the person I needed to talk to was assigned over to fire training all week... My guess is she is there for interviews.

See the attachment, as the Fire Chief and Mayor welcomes the 59 new fire recruits to the department.

a quote from the article above...

"We're looking at a really good recruit training class and looking forward to getting our folks out to the field to help the public," said Chief Halford."

now...that a good portion of that class has no fire experience or training how do you say that??? just saying...

The new recruits look very poorly dressed! wow! I would think a suit would be the respectable choice of attire for an orientation.

Suits and fancy clothes not needed. They have been hired and going through the first day at the academy.

We tell our new hires to report as these members are on the first day, as later that day FD Duty Uniforms will be issued.

The next day we expect them to be properly clothed and ready to get to work.
