Academy Question (IFSAC)
Hey gang, long time lurker, what great info you guys and gals have.
My question is, I just finished my 1&2 academy at the local community college. Now, there is not a fire marshal here in Arizona anymore, so they no longer "certify" the crew that graduates.
Having graduated my 1&2 most departments ask that you be certified or meet a NFPA standard academy (not sure on the NFPA#) which mine was.
Now here's the thing, my RTO called me and said that they are holding a ifsac cert class on Monday, which happens to be the same day I am taking my NRT. I told him I have my NRT and he said that was fine, that they will be holding more later on in the future.
If my academy is NFPA approved and thats what most of the departments are looking for, is the ifsac cert worth it that much to bail on my NRT that I have 70 hooves paid for already?
Thanks a lot,
If your academy is IFSAC acreditted, it'll just cost you $15 to register an IFSAC certification.

what college academy did you go to? im going to mesa's in august.
i was told by chandler-gilbert's f.s. program director to apply for the certificate of completion and that most AZ depts would recognize it until something's in place with the state. dont know how much truth to that is since chandler-gilber doesnt have an academy.
I did mine through Scottsdale Community. However it was a tie in with Mesa's academy as well. (same RTO's)

The thing is, you will graduate the academy NFPA 1001 equivilent but will not be IFSAC certified, you have to go and do IFSAC's test. (same exact test you do to pass the academy)
Good luck Lego, you will have a blast, really good RTO's out there.... not to mention they are pretty good at guiding you into departments, albeit smaller departments, still nothing to complain about.
I finished my academy in May and have a contingent job offer pending I pass my NRT. (wish me luck)
If you have any questions feel free to pm me.
Well I took the IFSAC test today (written) a lot of ifsta stuff on there, needless to say it was a pretty easy test.
Rescheduled my NRT, so hopefully I knock both of these out.
