    Default station question please help

Were debating in the firehouse looking for an answer. What is the piece called that connects the crosslay to the discharge in the hose bed? Its the one that flips side to side so you can load it from either side of the engine.

Lt. says there is a technical term for it. What you would call it if you were ordering it from the factory.

I've never heard it called anything else, either. I just looked it up. The correct name is Chiksan which is a registered trademark. Like so many others, Kleenex, for exampe, has become genericized.

Learn something new everyday. We have alway call the load a crosslay or Mattydale load. We were taught that was a Mattydale swivel. Good to know.

We have always called it a cross lay hose bed swivel.

When the shops and fd is specifying a pumper they use the correct nomenclature as listing either in the Elkhart or Akron catalogs.

Mattydale lays was so named for that fire department. Most departments down south call them cross lays or preconnects!
