Lightning Fire Sparked Near Cedar Fort
Lightning causes fire near Cedar Fort
A lightning-caused fire is burning in the canyons near Cedar Fort. The fire started just after 3 a.m. Sunday in the Spring and Pole canyons area inside the city limits of Cedar Fort, according to county fire officials. The fire has burned approximately 50 acres, according to Delbert Jay, Utah County fire warden.
Winds have been blowing most of the day, and the areas where the fire is burning west of town is inaccessible. Called the Spring Pole Fire, it is a half mile away from homes in Cedar Fort and high on the mountains. Departments helping throughout Sunday include Cedar Fort, Saratoga Springs, Eagle Mountain, Utah County, Bureau of Land Management (with air attacks) and some state personnel.
According to Jay, all personnel have been pulled from the mountain. Fire crews dwindled during the day as they were pulled from the state to help with major fires in Idaho.
"We don't have many to fight this fire; Idaho has drained our resources today." Jay said.
