No such thing as a 4-11 in Houston. Maybe in Chicago!

4-alarm hi-rise fire in Houston with reported mayday. At least 5 firefighters hurt. Standpipe issues.

Maybe not in Houstion, but in HOUSTON we have 1-11s, 2-11s,3-11s,4-11s,5-11s,6-11s and on July 31, 1979 we even had a 7-11 fire. All in the tiny City of Houston.

"That comes from the old GameWell Box Alarms on telephone post. Before radios, the Chief would instruct his Chauffer to go to a box and tap in two taps then eleven taps. That would tell dispatch to pull a second. Then if needed you could tap in 3 then 11 for a third alarm. Once the fire was out, you would tap in 7-1 to tell dispatch the fire was out, hence 7-1 this location."

Was that a 7 alarm fire in 1979 or you've only had one 7-11 slurpy stand burn down?
