Sutphen Recall

Not a knock against any manufacturer, just an FYI:

WASHINGTON - Sutphen Corp., based in Amlin, Ohio, is recalling 54 MY 2006-2008 pumper fire trucks equipped with Detroit Diesel Series 60 engines because of an engine software problem.

The software on these engines may cause the engine to shut down unexpectedly when a diesel particulate filter overheating condition is detected, according to the NHTSA.

Not only does such an engine shutdown increase the chances for a crash, it also could hamper rescue operations of the vehicle if it is out on a call.

Sutphen will notify truck owners of the recall, and Detroit Diesel will make the necessary repairs by reprogramming the engine motor control module. There will be no charge for this repair.

Its not a knock against a mfg, just a fact of a engine problem. It will more than likely effect more than Sutphen.

There were several recalls on this item. I listed them in a thread called "Recent Recalls," which has since been closed by the moderators, and which I can't even find any more. Sutphen was one, Pierce was another. I think Spartan may also have had one. If I remeber correctly, Detroit Diesel also had one of their own. I would imagine that anyone who has a vehicle that falls into that group should expect to hear from someone on it.

I did run a search for Sutphen recall but couldn't find one, guess that's why.
