Tough times

Really tough times in JFRD right now.
Giving back 2% doesnt solve the problem. It only ensures that next time the city will want another 2%. The true problem stems from the media failing to report the FULL story. Wasteful spending, pork barrel politics, back room deals...all get hidden by a media who is in the pocket of the politicians. The 4th estate is bankrupt. Anybody who believes that a give back would stave off layoffs is just blind to the citys true agenda.
That's terrible news up there for our brothers and sisters.
Yeah what really sucks it that, like most depts, they probably have a bunch of people with 3+ bugles who sit around all day doing nothing who could retire or who's positions could be eliminated in order to save line guys. Depts always cut from the bottom up. I heard that Hollywood is laying off 12 of the 15 they recently hired.

If your going to cry about doing the job you signed up for do us all a favor and quit, there are plenty of dedicated people standing in line for the best job in the world.
You said it bud!
BTW I did just that! Retire.
Well there is this thing called "Seniority" that is recognized by most all agencies. Also, consider the impact of "bumping rights" if those chief officers that promoted up the ranks were to be demoted due to the elimination of their position, more than likely they have retreat rights back to their last position, which creates a domino effect leading right back to the newest person on the job.
Hollywood made concessions and that was avoided. That department is not "top heavy" by any means. There are less than 10 people in admin there, all doing multiple jobs.
Big departments that are "top heavy" should reconsider. I know Miami-Dade's administrators get incentive pay even though they are behind a desk. You're a Medic and a Diver but have sat behind a desk for 10 years? Medic and Diver pay for you!
