    A simple machine...

A screw can be considered to be an inclined plane that has been wrapped around some central axis. You can see this relationship by making an inclined plane out of paper and then wrapping the paper around a pencil. The spiral shaped form that you make is a screw.

An Archimedes A-2000 screw sold by the Archimedes Tool and Machine Company.

And,yes,I noticed that the question involved being "attached to something with...",so I'd say that FireMech1 won the prize.
I just have to default to being a smart axe. It's what I am.

Missed your meds again, I see.

Thanks Paso. Haven't seen or heard of the show. Just read your thing about 12 times, and figured I was "screwed". So, that was my answer.

Funny that. The first thing I thought of was a helical staircase, with an image of hose tower to go with it.
