Kentucky Firewise Council improves communicate with wildland agencies!
Oct. 22, 2010 — The Rowan County Firewise Council purchased radios for the Kentucky Division of Forestry and the US Forest Service Cumberland District. Danny Blevins, chairman of the Firewise Council, said the new radios would be very beneficial for all firefighters.
“It is important to be able to communicate on fire scenes,” Blevins said. “Communications needed to be improved because the forest service was on a different radio band. Now that they have the radios, they can cross over into our radio band to communicate with us.”
Since radio communications have been improved, firemen will be safer on scenes and fire crews will be able to utilize their equipment and resources in a more proficient manner, Blevins said.
The firewise council gave away and installed 1,000 smoke alarms as a part of a grant from the Kentucky Injury Prevention and Research Center.
“We used $2,000 of the funds to purchase the radios,” he said. “We presented the radios to the Kentucky Division of Forestry and the US Forest Service Cumberland District on Oct. 13.”
The Rowan County Firewise Council is comprised of the Route 377 Fire Department, the Farmers Volunteer Fire Department, and the Hays Crossing/Haldeman Volunteer Fire Department.Always a day late and a dollar short!
