I'm creating this thread in case anyone from management happens to look in..........
The Forums are built on a "v Bulletin" Platform (if that's the right terminology) and as such the Smileys are a pain in the neck. To say that I use them sometimes is an understatement. Here's my concern:
The box at the right of the dialog Box while you're typing a post shows Ten Smileys. There are a total of Eleven. You can access the "Missing" one by clicking the "More" link at the bottom. This is an extremely Minor thing, but it's also a pain in the kazoo when you're typing because the missing one is rotated every day. Political Correctness??.... Why can't this site be like other sites by vbulletin and show all Eleven on the page????.............. And while we're at it, why not merge both Smiley Lists (one for Headings, other for Message Body) into one big list, and be able to use any one of them in either place???...... More than once, I've wanted to put a "Thumbs Up (or Down) in a Message Body..... Thanks, Harve

For once around here, I actually have a chance to talk about something that I happen to know quite a lot about. I used to have my own vBulletin message board. It certainly wasn't nearly as active as this, though, but I had several hundred members and about a quarter-million posts over a few years. It was just an "off topic" or general discussion site that sort of grew from members of a computer-specific message board that wanted somewhere to go to talk about things besides computers. There is also a semi-official website (somewhat endorsed by, although not a part of, the makers of vBulletin) where operators of vB boards would post "hacks" or modifications, whether changing the way a feature worked, adding new features, integrating with news readers or other external content, etc., and I was a member of that community, pretty well-known there back in the day.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure there is a setting that controls how many smilies are displayed next to the message box. It's been awhile, so I can't say for sure, but I do recall that being a setting. If it's not, it would be fairly easy to make that alteration in the templates (the bits of code that combine data from the database, such as message content, and put that data into HTML to actually display on your screen).
As for putting the thread header smilies in the Smilies box, that would be very easy. The administrator's control panel has a function that easily allows the admin to add more smilies which will show up in that box. All the admin has to do is put in the URL to a smilie (or upload one), give it a name and shortcut code (like :) or :P) and that's it.
