    Default Columbia SC LODD

Please keep the brothers and sisters of the Columbia/Richland Fire department in your thoughts and prayers. Info is still coming in and the local news isn't even reporting it yet.

Info has been pretty sketchy most of the afternoon but some is starting to come forward. I am working part of a shift tomorrow and will try to update when I get off in the evening. Stay safe out there.

In case anyone was wondering, the service today was wonderful. From what I could tell, the majority of the Columbia Fire Department was in attendance, as well as numerous other personnel from departments all over South Carolina. Apparatus from all corners of the state in addition to CFD apparatus made up a lengthy procession...it took over an hour to get from the church where the service was held to the grave site. The rookies from Charleston's current recruit class served food at the reception, which I thought was a very classy touch.

It was a great way to celebrate the life of from I could tell from stories told was a great guy. I have no doubt that he will be missed by everyone who knew him.

As GTRIDER said, the funeral today was a very sobering experience. Fire departments from all over the area came out to show their respects. The procession from the church to the cemetery was amazing and the people that came out and stood roadside for the whole procession were great. I think that the last call for Chance over the radio was probably the most emotional part of the whole event. Enough to bring a tear to the eye. Firefighter Chance Zobel, even though I didn't know you, I know that you will be missed. Look over your brothers and sisters and give them the strength to carry on.
