    Default 'Different' FD walkthrough locations.....

What are some of the 'different' areas you have done walkthroughs of? Here is one I escorted this past week - didn't take too many shots, but couldn't resist this one - showing the FF's taking their own shot!

The picture was taken on the roof (@10 stories up) of the NYS Capitol Building - there is a multi-year construction project going on there and the Albany FD was offered the opportunity to do walk throughs of the site.

    Very cool.

What hazards did you see/notice if you did have to respond (short of being 10 flights up on scaffolding)?

    Oh gee...where do I start?.....

Propane cylinders up in the work area, there are lifts with gasoline engines.....workers working on step scaffolding up on one of the 'towers' (thankfully they are very aware of the dangers - 1 year w/out an injury I believe!)....thousands of pounds of stone, clay tile.....

Add to that grinding on (old) wood deck roofs, LOTS of chases for sparks/fire/smoke to travel, limited to access to some work areas (one you have to actually walk about 20 feet along an old yankee gutter to get to)....

Then, on the inside, there is scaffolding about 130 feet high - workers working on the top of it (roof level)...lots of demolition going on so what was seen a couple weeks ago now has changed as far as access, or even exiting paths.....

Paso took me through the same area, though not to the roof, when I was in Albany a couple of weeks ago.

It was pretty amazing as I grew up in the city and drove or walked past the Capitol Building hundreds or maybe even thousands of times and never had any idea of what was under the skin.

It was a very cool experience, and quite a learning experience as well.
