Just called the Dayton Civil Service. The exam has been postponed with no set date to give it again. They stated that letters will be going out shortly.

a new test and grade on a curve...i hope their happy...we can dumb it down for them yet again. go buy a book and study. this is discrimination against the people who have put in the time to study and improve their scores to have a LEGITIMATE chance at a job. Absolutely absured that we must cater to those who want something handed to them.

Luckily this forum has only been dead for a year! The City sent out notifications today of the testing process being resumed for those who applied in late 2010. The last week in February the department had a majority of its members down to sample and certify the new exam (or some version of it) to prevent any conflicts from the DOJ.
The new test date is set for June 16th, 2012 and as part of continuing in the process, all interested applicants need to complete and return a form to the city, stating you are still interested in the position.
Haven't heard an official time-line once the test is finished, but I know a lot of the higher up's are hoping for a recruit class to hit the TC by Jan of 2013, planning for a 20-26 week class.

Any idea on where the testing location will be? Or if they will be sending out a study guide for the exam?

Testing site is still TBD, partially why I think they sent out the interest forms. If I had to put money on it, the Dayton Convention Center would be my guess. Based on the original application period the department is expecting 4,000+ to test.
As far as a study guide nothing has been announced, not to say something won't come out. I'd prepare for a half psycological, half true "civil service" exam.

What does a true "civil service" exam encompass? I have taken numerous tests that are "civil service" but each seems to have distinct differences.

I can't provide you with specifics, however, what I meant with that statement was reading/writing/math/mechanical aptitude/etc. The typical sections you would expect for an exam.
I know each test has its own unique style, and with this being the DFD's first experience with our new test writer....no one knows what to expect.

They have the exam yet? How was it?
Edit: Sorry I didn't see the other thread someone had started. Good luck folks, I wanted to take it but the Navy has other plans.Last edited by Desire4theJob; 05-22-2012 at 02:26 AM.

Official exam announcements were sent out late last week. Looks like the exam is June 16th at 0830.
Word around the companies is consistent that a recruit class is expected in early 2013 and will last approximately 6 months. Haven't heard any speculation on how many will be hired but I wouldn't count on more than 40 or so for the life of the list.

Rumor has it they have been looking in to using the CPAT but nothing has been confirmed. In the past, we have utilized our own physical agility however with the involvement of the Department of Justice in this process I don't see it being sufficient.

An old job information packet I found says that there is a test preparation manual mailed out before the test. Well, we're 13 days out and I haven't gotten anything. Are they doing away with this?
