Fire Inspection case loads

Does anyone know of any case studies that deal with the amount of work, or number of inspections, any single fire code official can handle at one time? I know here in CT there has been some unofficial study of case loads, but there seems to be nothing in writing. The consensus seems to be around 35 inspections of various occupancies before the quality of the work starts to decline.Meanwhile, we have inspectors that have hundreds of inspections on their clip boards with little chance of completing them. Help?

35 a month??

Kind of depends on what kind of buildings and businesses you are dealing with!!!

Is it one high rise or one single story business?? Kind of changes on how you count one inspection

When you say 100,s is that in a month??


Also you do not say if this is a full-time inspector or shift firefighters trying to do this with the rest of their work load

I have always been told and have taught that it is better to do fewer good inspections than many poor ones. By having a large workload and mandating they be done in an unrealistic period of time, you are asking for things to be missed and incomplete inspections.
