Hey fellas,
Im starting my own residential painting business on my off days and wanted some opinions...
I would like to mention in some advertising flyers that im going to pass out that the business is run by an "off duty career firefighter." I dont want to overly advertise this fact, but I believe it will set me apart from my competition.
The name of the business doesnt have anything to do with the fire service, but I want to mention something in the description of the work that I do that I am a career fireman.
I think most potential customers like to see this fact and know they can trust me more than the next guy.
So my question is...
What ways would you advertise that you are a trusted local career fireman without sounding desperate or tacky?
Thanks!
Don

Or, they see you as an overpaid, underworked, leech on the taxpayers (them), who is so well rested from being paid to sleep, eat, and play Xbox that he can go out and work a side job to buy all his toys. At least all the ones that he can't afford on the $100,000 he makes every year.
I'd say leave it off the flyers.
Don't forget to network with your brothers and sisters, they can hook you up with friends, family, etc.Last edited by sfd1992; 12-22-2010 at 01:24 PM.

I would look at it as a plus, (that's one of the reasons that I went with a certain chimney sweep co recently) but I agree with sfd1992. It could go either way.
Leave it off the flyers, but get your brothers to help you out through word of mouth.

I agree... leave it off the flyers.
"The education of a firefighter and the continued education of a firefighter is what makes "real" firefighters. Continuous skill development is the core of progressive firefighting. We learn by doing and doing it again and again, both on the training ground and the fireground."
