Hey all,
Simple idea here. I like reading books having to do with the fire service, as I am sure most of you are as well. Just looking for some more.
Read:
Report from EG Co 82
Firefighters (also dennis smith)
The Fire Inside
so others might live
the last men out
rescue men
By the way all really good reads. Firefighters and the fire inside are all a collection of stories from americas firefighters but firefighters was published in 1988 and i think the fire inside was 1996 so it kind of gives a young pup like myself a glimpse of the glory years. Rescue men was a neat family history of the kenney clan from the boston fd. Will send anybody authors and more info per request. but like i said, i would like any ideas if anybody has something they know of. Thanks guys.

Here's a link to DMC publishing.. all kinds of fire books there!
http://www.dmcfirebooks.com/greatesthits.html"The education of a firefighter and the continued education of a firefighter is what makes "real" firefighters. Continuous skill development is the core of progressive firefighting. We learn by doing and doing it again and again, both on the training ground and the fireground."

Are you interested in books about firefighting as stories? or are you interested in actual technical books about firefighting operations?
Many great books were already listed, but to add,
Report From Ground Zero (Dennis Smith)
Last Man Down (FDNY Battalion Commander Richard Picciotto)
Firehouse (David Halberstam)
Pride and Ownership, A Firefighters Love of the Job (Rick Lasky)
B-Shifter, A Firefighters Memoir (Nick Brunacini)
As far as technical books (if you are intersted),
The Fire Officers handbook of Tactics (John Norman)
Fire Department Special Operations (John Norman)
Branningan's Building Construction for the Fire Service (Francis L Brannigan)
First In, Last Out, Leadership lessons from the FDNY (John Salka)
Strategy of Firefighting (Vincent Dunn)
Air Management for the Fire Service (Mike Gagliano, Casey Phillips, Phillip Jose, Steve Bernocco)

Hate to bump and I know it's been at while. Rescue mentioned in his post a book titled 3000 degrees. With the recent loss of FF Davies and the anniversary of the W6, I decided to buy it as it not in my local library. My god what a read. I was left speechless. Gonzo, I now see why the post on the disgust, even though you rescinded the comments. I can't imagine what the sting of that date must be like.
Nothing else to say. Try buying it if you all haven't read it. God bless the W.F.D. And keep them in your thoughts tomorrow."It's a living thing brian..."

If you like fire investigation, try "Blaze" by Nicholas Faith.
He's English, so some of the terminology is funky to an American, but the content and the technical discussions of the investgations, as well as human behavior in fire situations, is excellent.Train to fight the fires you fight.

Dave Houseal's two books; "We can see it from the bridge" and "We've got them on point". Dave is a legendary story teller, and he now volunteers a lot of time in the Fire Museum in Harrisburg, PA. If you ever get a chance stop by, hopefully you'll catch Dave.
I'll second many books already mentioned. Anything by Don Whitney (Loo, Blackened Shield...) are great. And Nick Brunicini's "B-shifter" will leave you in stitches. "When I was little, I wanted to grow up and be a Chevy truck..."~Drew

Guys I really appreciate it. Love building the library up... And the in-laws enjoy the amazon wish list. Apparently they like buying the books over that new Sam Houston I put up there

Fire on the mountain is a great book. I am reading the one advertised on this webpage, WTC: In their own words and am really enjoying it.
The winner is not the person with the most gold when he dies, but rather, the most stories
