IFSAC Practicals

A few guys from my department and myself are thinking about taking the IFSAC test for Firefighter I/II.... does anyone know how many skills you have to actually test on? The website shows over 100 different skill sheets.

well lets knock the Brain cells around for a second, When i tested mine i Had
FF-1
Ropes & Knots
Fire Attack
Interior Fire attack
Second Story Search
Flat roof Ventilation
Pitched Roof Ventilation
Vehicle Fires
Portable Fire Extinguishers
We We constantly tested on PPE, and SCBA through out every test. We operated in 3 man crews and had to rotate through each position in the crew, to complete the task.

FF-2
Low angle rescue- 4 man crew
Flammable liquids
Vehicular stabilization
Vehicle extrication-4 man crew
High Angle Rescue-4 man crew

I know i am forgetting something in there, but that was what i was tested on.

I think it is all dependent on the state testing, for they get accredited to issue the IFSAC seal. In Texas you attend a 468 hour academy in which you are tested on all the IFSAC skills. Those test sheets are kept on file. When the time comes to test they pick 4 random skill, one of which will be a SCBA task.

Probably does not help a person in Ohio. Quick look on the Ohio State Fire Marshal website ( http://www.com.ohio.gov/fire/ ) says to address certification questions to

I believe that in most of my IFSAC classes, we have done approximately 5 of the practical skills during the practical portion of the test.

I know here in iowa, which is national cert. there is usually five to six practicals, one of them which will be properly donning your SCBA in the alloted time

If you're ever working beside me, I would ask for you to be ready to pass all of them. I'm sure your family and friends would agree too.

LSU Fire Training mandates certain skills be tested. If the skills are being tested by an LSU instructor, these are the only skills that will be tested.

Other skills are up to the local department if they are conducting thier own practicals. An example of this is the 35' ladder raise which is an optional local skill compared to the 24'/28' raise, which is a mandated skill.

Thanks for the help. It's been a little while since I finished my FF2 class but I feel confident that I could complete all the tasks, was just curious as to how many you had to complete come test day.
