FF contract jobs wanted

ok i have a few questions for those of you out there. i have all my state fire certs emt haz mat nims 100 200 700 800 cpr etc. all however are state certifications. i am looking for a contract ff job any where thats hiring. do i have what it takes to get a job?? any suggestions for me. anyone have a 6 month contract? what is the avg salary?

If you have state fire cert than most likely you are IFSAC or ProBoard certified. I've never heard of any state fire certs not being accredited from either of the two. ARFF will be the next thing you should get if your trying to get a job overseas. I would get in (in this order) EMT-Basic, ARFF NFPA 1003, TELLCOMM I & II. Most contractors will put you through tellcomm as soon as you get overthere. If you can get it before than go for it. But apply with what you have now. I personally know firefighters that overseas that don't have EMT or ARFF. It's not required at bases that are not fly missions. Alot of contractors require different certs. Bottom line, apply now, and keep furthering your training by obtaining the certs mentioned, update your resume as you get them. I've seen pay for a firefighter from $40K to $150K. Look on your fire certs for a seal (usually gold). That will tell you if it's IFSAC or ProBoard accredited.

ok thanks guys. i have my emt just need to test for my national registry. ive had my emt for almost 5 years. and yes my state fire and hazmat are both certified. im working on my driver operator classes now and im waiting to get in an arff class at the ANG base at the local air port here soon

Every year Antarctica hires firefighters for either 6 months or 14 months at a time. It is a great time and fun experience. Raytheon polar services currently has the contract for the fire jobs but may change.

I'm curious as to when Raytheon is going to be hiring for Antarctica as well? I just got my national medic license and was wondering if they hire medics? I want to go and try it out before I start applying for jobs in the states. I do have some fire experience as well. Anyone have any thoughts?

Keep in mind that Raytheon Antarctica does not pay like other overseas ff work. The experience would be great though and not many people could say they been to all 7 continents.

PAE Group is looking for several countries - Congo and Djibouti from what I remember. Also if you just got your medic license, check out Red Crescent Authority in Saudi Arabia. Heard it is a good gig to land and just keep tabs on:

Dyncorp, ITT Systems, Vinnell, CSC, KRS (Kwajalein), Chugach, Occu-Care (medical) and even KBR still looks for people from time to time. However, it seems harder to break into this contract world and it is seeming all want more certs than what is really needed.

Side note, ITT in Afghan does not require Tel Comm I&II, dispatchers are a separate hiring.

Rayteon will hire for Antarctica's summer which is august to febuary. So it should show up on their website any time after march 1st. Yes they hire medics but you do not have to be a medic.

Most of the overseas contract jobs are private contractors for the Department of Defense in which you are required to be DOD/IFSAC certified. So no, you are not certified. You may be qualified, but like I said, not certified. At a minumum for a basic firefighting postion you are required to have IFSAC Firefighter I & II, Telecommunicator I & II, Airport Firefighter, Hazmat awareness, Hazmat operations, First Responder, and CPR.

you are wrong my friend...... according to my state fire transcript, my firefighter 1 and 2 are both IFSAC certified, not all contract firefighter jobs require you to have your ARFF or Telecommunicator.

I too was a little taken aback by asmith's outlandishly rude reply. However, saying that, he is indeed correct. Many iraq/afghan contracts do not require ARFF, and last i checked many contract companies have finally realized that T-Comm is something that another work force should be doing, not the FF's. Therefore, T-Comm is not required either.

The main player in Iraq (Sallyport) requires you to posses T-Comm, but the Afghan contracts are not making the FF/FI's have that cert.

As for your not getting a call back, that might have something to do with your character rather than your certs. I seem to have no issue getting job offers.
