Scott NXg2 Cylinder Adapter

Does anyone make an adapter to allow you to use the NXG2 cylinders with air bags and pneumatic tools? We currently must use a RIT pack to adapt to the air tools and would prefer a direct adapter.

That is actually a great question. Let me know if you find anything out. We too have NxG2's and have simply kept some 60 minute conventional bottles for airbags and tools.

Is the diffrence because it is a low pressure bottle? I thought that the whole NIMS mandate stuff was going to standerize all air bottles for interoperability? I know we have flled Scotts bottles in the past off our cascade, just dialed down the pressure.

This is also interest ot me as a tech rescue guy, want to find out if we need to carry some kind of adapter to use our airbags when operating with neighboring departments that use Scotts.

NIMS has no mandate about air bottles.

Scott had some good sales reps to peddle the NX, I hate thoose dam things, AP-50 with some more lights, a huge battery pack that went dead all the time, a bottle that can't cross over into anything, for a considerable price hike.

We do battery changes on a regular schedule, so we have no issues with batteries dying unexptedly. The added lights are a nice feature, you can pick them out easily in smoke. And the bottle quick connect allows cylinder changes in less then 10 seconds. Hardly a bad thing. Especially in an IDLH atmosphere if it was ever needed. You could actually change a cylinder out faster then using a RIT hose.

But i agree on the uniformity issue. If your surrounding departments don't have them, you will be limited.

How often do you use someone else's cylinders or give them your's. I never had and wouldn't. By the time we use up on hand supply a mobile cascade/compressor is on scene. Just excuses to keep inside the box.

Hey if the NXG works good for you guys great. As far as them being the best innovation, ehhh. They have some neat additions to them yes, I guess After looking at the Price tags, for a limited budget department i couldn't justify them.

The bottles wouldn't interface with most air tools without the a fore said adapter. The 15 seconds you save with the bottle changes to me doesn't off set the cost. I like the idea but like WD said, it would limit a Department.

Before looking into getting the adapter itself, look into getting the RIT pack they sell. We have two of them and it has all of the different adapter ends on it already. We have have 12 Fifty 60 minute cylinders which we use in the RIT packs as well as backup Fifty airpacks.

We went with the NxG2's as well. The biggest problem we have had is the poor design of the EZ Flo II regulators. They changed the design of them on the II series. We are working on changing back to the EZ Flo I.

They do suck the batteries. But so do the new Fifty airpacks. If you are having battery issues try switching to lithium batteries. They last much much longer. We check everything at least once a week so it is not such a problem for us.

Not to split hairs, but you are saving WAY more then 15 seconds. You can do a bottle swap in 10 seconds on an NxG. Opening and closing the valve is the most time consuming part. But without having to unscrew the hose, then line up and screw on the hose to the new bottle, your talking a savings of close to a minute. In thereoy, you can do a bottle swap without even having to take the reg off the mask. If you can hold your breath for 30 seconds while someone swaps your bottle, your good to go.

Nessecary? Not really. But it's nice to know you have the option.

Not just the air fitting but the actual cylinder mounting system. This will of course mean the end of unique cylinder mounting systems. Supposed to happen in the next few years.

Thats interesting, is this gonna be a NFPA standard? I would like some more info on that, where did you find that at?
