I've asked this s before, but can anyone give any insight to what they check for medically and if they check your medical history. Thanks!

A question for anybody who works for DFW. What was the time frame from the close of the application process to the actual written test date? Thanks

knee
well I had knee surgery and have a few other issues.... but now I am completely healthy and rehabbed. Just don't want to even get into the process if they aren't going to want to hire me because of these past issues.

FYI Called to just confirm that Dallas had received my transcripts. Don't do this, and I quote, "We don't have time to stop our hiring process to check each and every canidate's transcripts for them." Roger that.

Good to know - I almost just called to check the same thing. I guess I'll go with trusting my alma mater can effectively send transcripts!

Good luck with that...seems to me to be rather sad. Their job is to recruit/help/inform these individuals throughout the hiring process. So they should be able to look this up for you, if not "at that moment", then they should at least be able to get back with you in an e-mail or a courtesy phone call. I know they have thousands of candidates, but again, this is their job.
So what they are basically saying is, "we have enough applicants, if you get missed...sorry. We have plenty of people just like you and we will get our guy". Again, goodluck...this is the unfortunate part of big city hiring. You have thousands of people who want the job and well, you are just one applicant, just like thousands of others like yourself on paper. Sorry to hear that man, it shouldn't be that way.

Two questions. After reading through this forum I get the impression that this is a testing process for a one year list. Am I correct? Secondly, are there any preference points given for any reason, vet, resident, etc?
Thanks.

I'm not for certain if it is a one-year list or not, but I do know the pool of applicants from the test administered in 2003 was exhausted in 2005. The next test was held on April 4, 2006. Unless things have changed, that may indicate how long they hold on to the list.
I have not come across any preference points as of yet for the exams. However, I do believe things like experience and military background are considered during the panel reviews.

Although I can appreciate the workload that a recruiter for a large department must have, it sounds to me like you got a lazy one.
It takes all of 5 minutes to open a file, look in it, and confirm whether or not something is in it.
When in doubt, send more. The nice thing about transcripts is that your college(s) will mail it/them for free to wherever you choose. If you have any doubt about whether or not you paperwork is in order, send one a week until THEY tell you to "stop sending... we have your stuff".
Laziness goes both ways... the same recruiter that wouldn't look at your stuff will get tired of filing your stuff and will eventually call YOU and say "you're good with your paperwork".
Feel free to play "dumb" and tell him "I don't know what you are talking about... I sent that stuff to you months ago..."DFW
"There's no such thing as a free lunch."
