Welcome to the forums, Uwe.
If you haven't already done so, I would use the Search Feature on the forums to look at previous threads for information while you're waiting for some replies.
Use the search term firefighter Exchange and you should find quite a few threads (some with info on what is required, some with people looking for someone to exchange with - Canada, USA, England, Ireland, NZ and Australia seem to be the most prevalent countries but there could be some from Germany and the Netherlands and maybe another European country or two.
Hope that helps, it appears to be somewhat difficult to set up firefighter exchanges between the United States and other countries (VISA, RESIDENT, CITIZEN requirements & that type of thing). I just realised you said 4-6 weeks only ..... I'm not sure if it would be easier or harder to find a short-term (4-6 weeks) exchange rather than long-term (6 months to a year or longer). I based most of my above info on longer term exchanges.
Maybe start with asking your friends in Indiana if their fire department or other departments in their state do exchanges. Each state will likely have different rules and regulations about exchanges, certainly each fire department will.
Another idea would be to research specific departments you might be interested in - you would think most city departments have a website and you might find info on Exchange Programs there.
Good luck, hope this helps.
