Just lost one of our longtime Captains at my combination department today to cancer. He was moved to a hospice facility less than 2 weeks ago, so we knew this was coming.
Captain Merritt had 20 plus years in the fire service as a volunteer with about 10 at the rank of Captain. He also worked full-time for several years in the EMS field.
His son was hired as a Shreveport firefighter a little more than a year ago. He is still a volunteer with my department.
His wife was moved into the same hospice facility a week ago for cancer as well, and likely will also pass in the very near future.
Please keep his family in your prayers

One of our guys here is under Hospice Care.......... May Captain Merritt rest in Peace. And may his Family, at home and in the Fire Service, also rest easier, knowing that his pain is lifted. God Bless them.

My condolences to the family of Captain Merritt and his family. Especially with the double tragedy of both husband and wife suffering from cancer. I will keep them in my thoughts and close to my heart.

My condolences as well.
I'm always glad to hear that hospice has become involved with those who are nearing the end. Nobody wants anyone to go, but they seem to have a way to make it easier to deal with.Opinions my own. Standard disclaimers apply.
Everyone goes home. Safety begins with you.
