I am studying for the EMT test and need to test into the top 50. If you have taken the test can you give advice on what to focus on and study? Also would love advice on the oral boards as well.
Thanks!

tcc medic program
hey, i am a graduate of the program. for the written you need to sudy the stuff that is not so common ie: operations, ambulance safety, history of ems, obstetrics, and pediactris. think of things that are not popular topics. everyone focuses on cardio, respiratory, abdominal, and trauma but you need to study uncommon topics.

for the oral, honestly be yourself! mike is the most laid back easy going instructor. will probably ask a question about the best invention of all time and why? honestly the best thing to do is to set up an appointment and go in a talk to him! he loves enthusiastic go getters!!

I would buy the Rapid fire EMT study questions. it's all about repitition. Good luck on your exam. It has been my experience that those who put in the time are rewarded.

Are they still doing rise-alongs with Rural Metro?
If so, can you go to school somewhere else?
Not bein a total smart-***, just seems like the RM guys in Pierce County see nada in terms of critical pts- fire takes everything ALS with a few exceptions.
TFD, Central Pierce, Lakewood, Gig Harbour all do their own ALS, so not sure where RM has a primary ALS contract anymore. Maybe way out in the sticks?
Seems like the local RM guys get maybe 1 live tube in the field a year if they are very lucky. Otherwise they take what fire doesn't want/BLS, start a line and do the horizontal taxi.
Have you looked at Oregon Health Science? Or Central? Or anywhere else?
Good Luck!

TCC sends their students to quite a few departments. My department usually gets 2-3 a quarter and they ride at other departments in the county as well as Pierce and Thurston Counties.

Dont Waste your time with COCC.. Central Oregon Community College. Their EMS program is not even accredited... I would look into Chemeketa Community College in Salem. You can finish with a Fire degree and Paramedic in 3yrs...
