Usually speeding tickets are a very minor strike against you. As long as you weren't doing 20+ over the limit or DUI, just tell the truth about them and you should be fine. I have two on my record (both are more than 5 years ago) and they've never been an issue when they have come up. Good luck.

I think it's department specific. I have two tickets (15 over) from 3/07 and 10/08, so they still show up on a 5 year driving report. I've had to submit 5 year driving reports, and I've seen others that require 10 years. I've seen departments say no tickets within 2 years, some 3, and some up to 5; so it's all department specific. I just missed a hiring spot by 1 position (hired 9 and I was #10) and I got a letter in the mail basically saying my driving record was the reason I wasn't in the top 9.

But as I said, I believe it's just going to vary city to city...

    Hope this helps

I know in Ohio they drop off after 3 years. I've never had a dept go any farther than 3 years on Ohio

What if you have had all of your tickets deferred? Do they still show up on your record... and if they dont should you still mention them?

Deferred....Sealed....Expunged if any of these hold true to your case I would make sure you tell them about them . In the background investigation business those words DO NOT exist. They have access to any and all of your records. Be honest and forthright and you'll do fine.

    Jay,
You are so right, "There is no such thing as a sealed record."
Yes, it will be counted against you in a background check. Your driving record gives a snap shot of how you view society's laws.

I would be apprehensive to hire someone to drive my fire apparatus who cannot refrain from driving too fast. What's going to happen when this person drives code 3?
