Not till probably atleast January 2013, as that will be the 2 year mark for the list, which is traditionally how long they keep it.
Hopefully the safer grant expiring in oct 2012 will be a blessing for a large amount of us on the list that haven't been hired yet, as then they "would" (doesnt mean they WILL) be able to put on extra people for the transports etc...

I know that they are hiring 1 for 1 right now, but I just wanted to see if someone knew how many positions OFD waits to open up before they fill those spots. I know that they hiried just 1 at first off of the list, but they then hired a group of 4 after that. I just dont know what the sizes of the groups were after that and wanted to see if someone knew.

It's still 1 for 1, however you look at it. If 1 person retires this month, we'll hire 1. If 2 medical out and 1 retire, we'll hire 3. There's no telling right now, but we don't wait for a certain number before picking up more, it's just when the slots come available.

Just curious, since I know OFD is such a great place to work, how many applicants there were and how many they hired after everything is said and done? Any regulars (on this forum) get picked up?

I remember the line wrapping around the old amway arena for the written test. Probably 1300 people there.

Close to 2200 tested... They are hiring off a safer grant which means there is no set number of hires. When 1 retires they replace with the next in line off the eligibility list.

A consistent rumor that I hear is that Orlando will be doing another hiring sometime this year or early next due to the construction of "station 18," an addition of a new tower, engine, and some rescues.

The eligibility list they have now is good until 2013 or 14 i believe... They will pull from that until all eligible are hired or the time is up for that list. One of the Orlando guys on here may know the exact time the list is good for. Either way. Do not expect to see another hiring test for a few years at least. regardless of when the station opens.

The Test was in January 2011, therefore, per civil service, the next one should be around the beginning of the year in 2013, atleast that is how it always worked in the past. Theres all these "rumors" out there, but right now, while the SAFER grant is in effect, no one "extra" will be hired, just filling positions from retirements, medical outs etc, which has been stated many many times in this thread. The safer grant is up in August or October from what I understand. During that time, the mass hiring of 20 to 30 guys at a time "could" take place, doesn't mean it will though. Up to 5 rescues could go in service, Tower 6 "could" go back in service, Heavy rescue 1 could get their 5th guy back etc, theres alot that "could" happen, its all up in the air right now though probably. I've heard 85 guys to be hired by the end of the year, which would kill the list and then some, as the list is down to probably around 70 guys. I have also heard a new test this summer, with a new list as of October 1st 2011...The bottom line is, we will never know what really is going to happen. You can rest assured though that a new test should probably happen sometime around this time next year.
