I am a volunteer, 21 year old female who has had two kids.
I am now rucking 30lbs in three miles and running the 2 miles in 14 min. What do I need to know for AIT?? How can I better prepare myself for "the Suck" in TX?

Most important, is who is going to take care of your #1 and #2 responsibilites (those kids). And who is going to fill the void in their life when/if mommy becomes dead/nonfuctional.
It isn't a job. And it isn't a life for mommies with minor kids.

Well my husband goes over seas every 3 months for 9 months and that is not a good job for a father or a husband but we make it work. We have a family care plan if I die we have a family care plan if my husband dies. We could both die like that or crossing the street so telling me it is not a job for a mother with minor kids is just non sense.
I have been a firefighter for 2 years and we have made it work and I am going to be a firefighter in the US Army and we are going to make it work.
I just wanted advice on AIT and not how to be a mother..

suggest you post under federal a few doors down, if you are asking about the firefighting school in san angelo
also check , somewhere on there is a forum also
http://www.dodfire.com/index.htm
http://www.dodfire.net/forum/login.a...et=default.asp
also check you tube there are some san angelo videos of the training
put in goodfellow air force and goodfellow firefighter, it shows some of the pt
If you are already a firefighter you should not have much trouble, especially after you have gone through army boot campLast edited by fire49; 02-21-2011 at 06:18 PM.

To get back to the original purpose of this conversation... You said you're all ready rucking and running. You're off to a great start. I can't tell you how many young/new soldiers start basic training thinking, "The Army will get me in shape...." True though that statement is, the Army IMPROVES the physical state you are all ready in. If you suck, the Army will get you to pass the APFT; if you're in good shape to begin with, the Army will help you EXCEL physically.
The typical standard pack weight is 45 lbs and you want to maintain a 20:00/mile pace ~ 3 mph. (Now most skill badge schools such as Air Assault want and hold you to a 4 mph or 15:00/mile pace with 45+ lbs).
As for running, google search APFT score chart. You should see a couple results that break down the APFT by gender, age and raw score you achieve in 2 minutes for Push ups and Sit ups, and your 2 mile run time. The minimum EVERY soldier needs to achieve is 60% IN EVERY EVENT. The absolute mimimum score you should achieve is 180. Normally units strive for their soldiers to achieve 240 or better (80% in every event). As a female running 2 miles in 14:00 all ready, you're off to a fantastic start. So keep up the good work.
Most important thing to remember is to never quit, stay calm when stressed and always think your decisions through. I can guarantee you that some Drill or instructor is going to ask you, 'PRIVATE! WHY THE HELL DID YOU DO THAT?!' It's probably a really good idea to have a response better than, 'I don't know..'
Best of Luck to you!

sounds like your set. Makes me tired reading that. I can barely run 1.5 miles in 14 minutes.

12M Army FF
San Angelo is rough. Straight forward. We started with around 30 in my class and finished with about 18. I don't say this to scare you, I just want you to know how important being physically able to perform is, it's pass/fail to earn the badge on the FF Challenge. My best advice is to put on a 50 lb. weight vest and just hit the stair climber. Try 1 min. then 2 min. then keep going until your burnt. It will help, trust me. If you can pass the challenge, you will get the best training of your life at the #1 Fire academy in the country. Good luck.

Why don't you get hold of one of the FF on Fort Campbell and ask them about what you should do to be ready? Seems they'd know better than all but a few of us on here.
by the way, we're practically neighbors. Which department are you with, one of the Montgomery County departments or are you up in Christian County? I'm with Palmyra.
