Failed it for time, by one second (finished at 7:31). Basically, it just took me way too long on the Kaiser sled and the hose drag.

Sooo, I worked super hard for several months, really improved my physical fitness and did much better the second time...but now it seems all for naught. :/

So I guess the word may be out that the Spring Class isn't going to happen.
Rumours change every :30 seconds about layoffs.
Alot of senior guys are being very cool and bailing out early to try and save a new guy job. The Union will scratch and claw to prevent any bodies actually going out the door.
Giving back COLA raises, demotions, etc. All to prevent anyone from being canned.

I really don't believe anything the city says anymore. So we wait until it all actually happens.
Will there actually be boots on the street lay-offs? Maybe.

The Class that graduates today is pretty good, I hear. Only had 1 recruit not make it out of 17.
So I feel for them, the pressure they gotta be under- their entire Academy they've been hearing rumors. That would suck.

Will TFD hire off this current list?
    Yup.
2 year list, maybe 3. I think the City in a year or so will scream about overtime and re-hire some bodies, but some of those bodies will be hired by other FD's.

    As always, the waiting game.
    Be patient.

I feel for the class that just got out. I couldn't imagine moving across the country like some did, and getting a pink slip your first day at work after academy. Hopefully some guys that are up for retirement go so that some jobs can be saved for the new guys. My prayers are with you and your familys.

Terrible situation. I know one of the recruits.

I wouldn't count them out just yet. We had 6 people (out of 95) take early retirement this year to help save jobs...I'm sure some TFD folks will probably do the same.

It seems that no layoffs happened, which is a great thing! Anyone have an idea if TFD will continue to hire off the current list in the next year or so?

Just saw that Tacoma recieved a SAFER grant in the amount of $7,737,255.00

Anyone confirm from the inside? If so what plans may be?

Good for the guys and gals on the line, maybe they can bump up staffing or at least keep what they got and hire for those leaving.

Anyway should be exciting for those next up. Good luck.

Thanks, was wondering more about anticipated openings/academies or if they are just making a list?

2 days of testing with 3 sessions each day around June 4th at the Tacoma Dome. Not sure what the number of new hires will be but looking forward to the challenge!

I've heard from an officer there that they're planning on one whole class from this list, and they don't anticipate it in the near future because they can hardly afford the class that was hired off the last list. Of course, I imagine if we talk to ten other people at TFD that we will hear ten alternate theories. As always, we'll take it and pray!

Hope everyone is still working towards their goal.
TFD had a very tough time, like alot of departments, but the process keeps moving forward.
The written test is complete, somewhere around 600 took the test.
Practice PAT events will happen next.
Will anyone be hired soon off this list?
    No one knows.

I am very surprised to hear only 600 attended the written exam. I heard over 2000 had applied.

Not 600 per day, 600 total.
No where near as many people take the test as apply for the test.
    And many won't pass.
So I hear at least, but I just empty the trash at City Hall so I don't know.

I agree with you Dirty Axe. Mine also had at least 400, if not more.

Flipper123 I know to take your word on this issue, even though you just empty trash for city hall.
